One of the most important jobs of the Children and Young People Commissioner is to listen to children and young people. But it can be hard for them to pick up the phone or send an email to someone they don’t know. That’s why Commissioner, Jodie Griffiths-Cook created the Young Thinker Forum. This online portal is specifically for children and young people who want to share their views on something important to them. They can upload almost anything – a written piece in a word document, a video or audio message recorded on their phone or a photo of something that is meaningful to them, or of an artwork they have done. The only limit is file size.
They can submit alone or with friends. It can be as short as a phrase, or a full essay. The most important thing is that they have an avenue to share their views in ways that suit them.
The things that children and young people tell the Commissioner help to shape her advocacy to make Canberra a better place for them to live. They can comment on the questions she asks on the Young Thinker Forum or tell her about something else entirely. If you know a child or young person who has something to say, Jodie wants to hear from them.
