Event: Time to act, right to a healthy environment

As extreme weather events become more common, there is a growing awareness that our wellbeing and basic human rights depend on a safe climate and healthy ecosystems. Join us at a free public forum on December 9, as we discuss recognising the right to a healthy environment in the ACT Human Rights Act, and examine relevant global and local issues.

ACT Minister for Human Rights, Tara Cheyne MLA will open the forum. Former UN rapporteur on human rights and the environment, Professor John Knox, will deliver the keynote (virtual presentation), followed by a panel discussion with:

  • ACT Human Rights Commission President, Dr Helen Watchirs OAM, facilitator
  • Dr Sophie Lewis, ACT Commissioner for Sustainability and the Environment
  • Melanie Montalban, Managing Lawyer, ACT Environmental Defenders Office
  • Mary Mudford, Assistant Director of Traditional Custodian Engagement, ACT Environment and Sustainability Directorate
  • Professor Don Anton, ANU
  • ACT Minister for the Environment, Rebecca Vassarotti, will provide closing remarks.

Light refreshments will be served. Seating is limited. Reserve your FREE tickets now.

Livestream option: You can also watch via our livestream on the day. You do not need a ticket for the livestream.
