The Human Rights Commission Act 2005 sets out the Commissioner’s role and functions, and guides the complaints process.

The Health Practitioner National Law (ACT) dictates the functions of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, the various health profession registration boards, and the interactions between the Commission and those entities.

The Health Records (Privacy and Access) Act 1997 sets out provisions for the protection of, and facilitates access to, personal health information. By regulation, it also sets the maximum fees that may be charged for access to and transfer of records.

The Veterinary Surgeons Act 2015 regulates the profession of veterinary surgeons, and dictates various interactions between the Veterinary Surgeons Board and the Commission.
